How pricing works
- Hourly rates
- Non-medical home care on O'ahu generally runs from the mid-$40s to the low-$50s per hour. At Kai, rates fall between $46 and $52 depending on the level of care — homemaker and companion support at the lower end, hands-on personal care at the higher — and step down as weekly hours increase.
- Four-hour blocks
- Care is scheduled in four-hour blocks — 8am–12pm, 12pm–4pm, 4pm–8pm. Most agencies carry a similar visit minimum; it is what makes a shift worth a good caregiver's commute, and it is why "just an hour a day" is rarely offered by anyone.
- Overnights
- Nights run as a single staffed 12-hour block, 8pm to 8am. Live-in caregiving is not legal in Hawai'i — a staffed overnight is how nights are covered, legally and safely.
- Holidays and extras
- Major holidays are commonly billed at 1.5× the regular rate — ours are. Two people receiving care in one home adds a per-hour amount, not a doubled bill.

Long-term care insurance often applies — Kai can work from the policy's terms. Hawai'i's Kupuna Care program supports qualifying kupuna through the county Elderly Affairs Division.
